image of hand-fast ceremony
hand-fast versal ue to our celtic roots, we chose to include elements of a ‘handfast’ ceremony into our wedding day. A handfast ceremony is usually held next to running water and the couple‘s families exchange cloth such as their clans’ tartan, with ribbons entwining the couple’s wrists as they make their wedding vows. This is where the term ‘tying the knot’ originates.
We used bands of a family tartan to fasten our hands, with other pieces on the tables where we signed the register and displayed the cake. We have undertaken work for couples who also used tartan satin ribbon on their stationery, cake, car and flowers, with beautiful results.

Traditionally couples would revisit the same site a year on to confirm their commitment, sealing their bond of marriage as we now know it.
